About Ann

Ann has been working with fiber since she was a teenager. She started making some of her own clothes because the clothing in the stores did not fit. After graduating from the University of Michigan with a teaching degree in English, she moved to Boston. There she took a class from Michael James, and her interest in quilting started. Ann moved with her family to Minnesota, and she got a job teaching English to middle school students.

While her children were growing up, she continued to take quilting classes, and her quilts became contemporary pieces. Even though she still occasionally makes wall hangings, her current interest is felting. Ann has a special interest in sculptural pieces.

Artist Statement

Nature is the inspiration for most of my work. When I go for a walk, I am seldom without my camera. I love to capture the colors, textures, and forms of each season. Leaves, pods, and grasses fill my photos and influence my work. The plants and mosses of the wetland, where each plant is a different green hue, show textural changes and patterns that find their way into my pieces. Some of my current work is part of an exploration of the element line, and others pieces are inspired by seed pods.
